NZUKO focuses on scholarly research into religions, spirituality, faith traditions, and belief systems, examined through historical, philosophical, theological, sociological, psychological, and interdisciplinary perspectives.
The journal places particular emphasis on:

- The interaction between religion, culture, ethics, and society

Submissions must clearly demonstrate how interdisciplinary perspectives contribute to the study of religion or spirituality.
Out-of-scope submissions
NZUKO does not consider:
- Manuscripts lacking clear scholarly grounding
- Opinion pieces without academic analysis
- Devotional or confessional texts without critical engagement
- Submissions unrelated to religion, spirituality, or faith research
